Let’s face it, Strategic Plans are not fun to create, but are essential. Our plan is based around 3 strategic pillars in the circles at the top – Community Connection, Sustainable Future, Take Action. Each one of those colour coded pillars breaks down to a number of strategies to be followed over the next 5 years or so in what we call “horizons” – you can’t do everything at once, so you build up from one horizon to the next with your actions. MEETING 1177: MAYOR JILL’S COUNCIL UPDATE
Mayor Jill provided us a presentation updating several areas that have influenced this term of Council and its activities. They revolved around headings such as Financial, Covid 19, Local Business, Environment, Development & Planning & Open Space. All these things dovetail with the new vision of “A Safe, Sustainable, Vibrant Community”. Bulletin RCMS 1177
MEETING 1176: DISTRICT CONFERENCE
This week we heard from Lindsay, Ian and Mark about the District Conference conducted by RC of Campbelltown. Mark summed it up well: “My overall impression of this year’s conference at Tanunda’s Faith Lutheran College/Theatre was it was my seventh and one of the best that I have attended. For an amateur group it was of professional standards. The EMCEE, former Campbelltown Rotarian, Lynton Nicholas, was the comedic conduit that seamlessly moved from guest presenter to the next.” Bulletin RCMS 1176
MEETING 1175: OPERATION FLINDERS UPDATE
It was wonderful to have Jonathon back here again to update us on the essential work of Op Flinders, which our club has supported wholeheartedly since it came to this area. I thought that was longer ago but looking back I see that the program only came to the area in late 2017 and the first group was supported in 2018, so this is only the 4th or 5th year we will support the venture. Importantly in that time, the lives of 40 or 50 young people from our local area have been transformed by this important work. Bulletin RCMS 1175
MEETING 1174: JAMES STEVENS MHR
It was timely, that Lindsay invited youth parliamentarian Ella Garrood and her dad Kieron because our guest speaker was the Hon James Stevens, member for the Federal seat of Sturt. The erstwhile member for Sturt, Christopher Pyne, had visited our club many times over the years, but this was a first for James. Bulletin RCMS 1174
MEETING 1173: 2022 AGM
This meeting was our very important AGM. Thanks to everyone for putting their names forward and making a great team to support Lindsay as he takes on the top job. There are two new faces on the Club Board with Peter and Don stepping up. We wish them well in their roles and we’re quite sure everyone will get behind them and assist them in every way possible. MEETING 1172: BEHIND THE BADGE PETER & RICK
Peter and Rick are to be inducted into the club on 1 March and then shoot off overseas to Britain for a well- deserved holiday, so we thought we could ask them to address the club now. The dynamic duo ran the Athelstone Post Office for eight years and their experiences there was the theme of their address to the club. Bulletin RCMS 1172
MEETING 1171: HON VINCENT TARZIA
It was great to finally catch up with our local MP, Vincent Tarzia, to hear about things going on in the local area. Although an election is looming, I have to say that Vincent remained very apolitical, carefully respecting our Rotary values. Bulletin RCMS 1171
MEETING 1170: MAJOR CRIME
At this meeting we were fortunate to have Chief Inspector (ret’d) Bill Prior join us. Bill is a well known local resident, who has joined us previously. His long and distinguished career in the SA Police Force is always fascinating to hear about and we warmly welcomed him. Bulletin RCMS 1170
MEETING 1169: CR LUCI BLACKBOROUGH
It was our enormous pleasure to introduce our guest speaker today. Luci joined Council’s Youth Advisory Committee (YAC) in 2017 when she was in Year 12. She developed a strong interest in local government and put her hand up for the 2018 elections. She won and became the youngest person ever elected to Campbelltown Council. Bulletin RCMS 1169
