This morning we welcomed members of the Rotaract Club of Sturt along to join us for breakfast, thanks to Trephina, Chloe and President Josh for coming along. We also had the pleasure of friend of Rotary, Paul Hector, as well as my partner Bob Hobbs and Jacqui Marano from Norwood Morialta High School in attendance.
It is always an honour when one of the members of our club is recognised for their hard work and selflessness. On Tuesday, member Sue Hector, was presented with a Paul Harris Fellow. This award is an appreciation for everything Sue does as a member of our club and her daily life. The club, on Sue’s behalf, contribute money to the Rotary Foundation of Rotary International who allays suffering, improving living conditions, and providing educational opportunities for young people somewhere in the world. Together we strive to build a world of understanding and peace. Well done Sue, a well deserved recognition and we are grateful of everything you do.
Today’s meeting was committee meetings. A little different from the usual committee meetings. All members were split into two groups: Membership and Fundraising. Each group was given a couple of discussion points. There were some fantastic discussions happening, with a few action plans developed. On the membership front, it was agreed that we need to be targeting more local businesses as well as local residents. A flow chart is going to be developed which asks a person questions relating to attending a breakfast meeting. It was also discussed about having more mentor roles for current members.
On the fundraising front, we have set the goal of raising $21,000 over the next Rotary Year. Together with our regular events, such as the market and shed BBQ, we are looking at hosting a few other events and involving our school connections more. All in all, the wheels have been put in motion for the coming year…..I can’t wait to start implementing these plans and getting our hands dirty!!
I am happy to tell everyone that Bron Hyder has accepted the role of writing birthday cards for members this year and Licaria Scheepers has agreed to organise some fellowship event for the year as well has helping with grant applications. Thank you ladies for your support.
