From President Mina Ward:

At this Tuesday’s meeting we were glad to welcome, David Palmer, from Autism SA along. David has been an ambassador for Autism SA since 2008 as well as working for them part time in their business continuity department. Since being diagnosed as being on the Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) scale at the age of 12, David has been determined to not let it get in his way. He is married with two children, and loves umpiring cricket and footy. Overall you get a sense David is really happy.

ASD affects 1 in 100 people in Australia and is more prevalent in males than females (4:1). The main areas of development which are affected are social communication, restricted interests and behaviours and sensory processing. No two people on the spectrum are the same, so each individual requires specific support tailored for them.

Autism SA prides itself in providing services to young people across South Australia since 1964, ensuring access to the best information, education, treatment and support. Visit www.autismsa.org.au to find out more about how you can support people with Autism in the local area and what it is all about. It’s fantastic to see the support David has received from this organisation to help him get where he is today and for him to now be supporting others in a similar situation.

Thanks to our guests, Megan from CanDo 4 Kids, Laura and Jodie for coming along this morning to hear our guest speaker and enjoy brekkie with us.

Happy birthday’s this week to Kirsty on 10th (think she’s hoping for the PM to wish her a happy birthday at morning tea) and Gary on 12th.

A reminder to please pay for Parliament dinner on 23rd ($30), birthday dinner on 14th May ($45) and $20 for Footy Tipping if you are entering this year.

Siony is continuing her fantastic work as Youth Services Coordinator for the club and is meeting up with the principal of NMHS this Friday.
